[Hendricks has been doing his backreading. Strange days. He wonders how common they are. ...and look, people are the same all over, from any culture or technology level. He's not surprised that the Stanford Prisoner Experiment was invoked recently, although he's more surprised that on the balance, there isn't general rule by the more literally super-powered. That's something worth having some renewed faith in.

Also he's going to have to pay attention to the rights of non-humans-- the vampires here aren't the Black court scourges or the White court soul eaters he's used to and he has to be better than preconceptions to do this job. He'll have to figure out how to talk to the local werewolf about what form her theriomorphy takes, because she seems to be halfway between a Lycanthrope and a Werewolf in the terms of his universe.

He thinks all that and he says:]

Hey. Name's Hendricks. I'm from Chicago. New warden.

Nice to meetcha.

Not bad, really. I mean, I had friends and a great warden.

Yeah? It bother you, not having much power, though?

Yeah, but then I got my power back more and more toward the end, and then it wasn't bad at all. I mean, I was desperate to get my magic back when I didn't have it.

It still kinda sounds like it sucks. But I wouldn't know.

Since you were there, you got any tips on being a good warden?

[Going to the authority is rarely the wrong answer when you're researching a new subject, after all.]

Well, with me it helped to have quality time with my warden and someone I could look up to that wasn't planning on harvesting my magic to add to their own power.

No, that was back home. That was how I ended up here in the first place.

Okay. Good to know. I'm not sure what kinda job I'm looking at here.

Well, there's lots of chaos and making stuff up as you go along. You know about floods and ports, right?

Sorta. I read some of the stuff people told the last new warden.

Okay, well, floods are when the ship takes on 'water', which is actually bits of other universes, and it changes a bunch of people on the ship. How it changes them depends on the flood. You might turn into a woman, or you might suddenly go all evil or whatever. You never know.

Ports are when we stop off at a place for a while. Might be a vacation spot, might be a place where you'll have people trying to chop off your hands to sell on the black market. Again, you never know.

The floods sound pretty nasty. I've been to bad cities, I can handle that. But I don't like that you can turn evil.

[Can the class say 'complete abrogation of free will?' Yeaaah, that worries him more than anything else.]

Yeah, ports sometimes have that, too, if you fall overboard. You get absorbed into the world and become someone from that world.

Welp. Sometimes jobs suck.

But it's fun sometimes, too! I mean, some of the people here are great!
