1 - I think it better in times like these...

[Hendricks has been doing his backreading. Strange days. He wonders how common they are. ...and look, people are the same all over, from any culture or technology level. He's not surprised that the Stanford Prisoner Experiment was invoked recently, although he's more surprised that on the balance, there isn't general rule by the more literally super-powered. That's something worth having some renewed faith in.

Also he's going to have to pay attention to the rights of non-humans-- the vampires here aren't the Black court scourges or the White court soul eaters he's used to and he has to be better than preconceptions to do this job. He'll have to figure out how to talk to the local werewolf about what form her theriomorphy takes, because she seems to be halfway between a Lycanthrope and a Werewolf in the terms of his universe.

He thinks all that and he says:]

Hey. Name's Hendricks. I'm from Chicago. New warden.

Well, er, chalk me up to the last one, I suppose. Except less "kid" and more "police captain."

Hey. [A wave at the communicator.] What city? I don't think you're CPD.

AMCW, actually. Ankh-Morpork City Watch? [She says this without much hope of it being recognized. No one is ever from her world, except bloody Ardent.] I'm from a planet called the Disc, very creatively, because it is in fact shaped like a disc. I've come to learn this is considered strange.

[He's gathered, already, that mentioning pop culture knowledge as some kind of window into actual people's experiences would be the height of fucking tackiness. All the more reason to play clueless.]

Earth is a popular one here; I don't think you'll lack for the common experience.

Although... [She hesitates, then switches to private.]

[Except now she's not entirely sure how to put this, so it takes her a second, hesitating.] The werewolves you know... It's just that most of the people I've met from Earth, they say the undead get up to all kinds of things there, and very few of them any good.

I wish I had easy answers, lady.

It's kind of a mixed bag, yanno? The fairies are pretty much always bad news. The Loupe Garou are fine most of the month and then they're monsters. Lycanthropes are just dicks. Hexenwulfs, the belt ones, they're dicks and junkies. Werewolves are fine.

Zombies are bad news, usually someone's controlling them. Hit squads.

Vampires... well none of'm are nice. Some will pretend to play ball. All of'm want to eat you.

Most stuff that isn't human wants to eat stuff that is human. Basically.

[She nods, a little dejected.] Oh, well. Fantastic, then.

What's the difference between a, er-- a lycanthrope and a werewolf supposed to be?

Lycanthropes don't turn into wolves. Just think like'm.

That's pretty nasty. I can't imagine they're very well equipped.

[He shrugs.] They manage. Good fighters. Tend to live in groups. Kinda territorial. They got enough human brain to do human stuff. Businesses, bank accounts.

Not thinking like wolves, then. Thinking like humans who think they think like wolves.

[He has to repress a smile. He'll have to figure out how to slip her a concise history of 'canine psychology' that used only artificially-gathered wolf packs in zoos and led to a century of fratbrahs and other lower lifeforms calling themselves ALPHA MALES.

She'll probably have a good laugh.]

Yeah. Something like that. Do get stronger around the full moon, though.

[A good something, anyway. It sounds like it would make a good chew toy.]

So do a fair number of human women, I'm told.

I don't think most ladies actually synch up like that. [Just from his experience.]

There's only so many days in the month, lad, and quite a few more women.

I guess that's true.

[He can't actually remember ever being called 'lad' before.]
